Over the next few days some members of the blog team will be posting their favorite memories from conferences past. We throw the same question out to you. What are your most memorable experiences at annual conference?

One of my favorite annual conference memories occurred back in 1998.

I was attending the Golden Image Awards ceremony and my wife and I were seated at a table located in the very back of the hotel ballroom.

Like most awards ceremonies, the program that evening was getting a bit long. I had already picked up a Golden Image Award for an internal communications project and was ready to call it a night.

No sooner had we stood up to make our inconspicuous exit when they announced the winner of the Dick Pope Grand All Golden Image Award -- and it was me!

Imagine my surprise to have the spotlight hit me as my wife and I stood at the ballroom exit. Awkward to say the least.

When reality kicked in, I made my way to the stage and accepted the award. It was a special moment... and one I almost missed.

The moral of my story: the ceremony isn't over until the last award is given out. And the name on that award could very well be yours!

My favorite conference memory is slightly different.

It's not of one moment in particular, but of the fabulous networking opportunities that take place throughout the conference.

I prefer a less formal gathering of fellow professionals, such as the FPRA Scholarship Fundraiser. Last year, Chris Gent did a terrific job organizing a sunset cruise for the fundraiser in St. Petersburg. Attendees were treated to a relaxing atmosphere, beautiful view, deals on auction items and great company with fellow PR pros.
