FPRA Annual Conference: The Velvet Hammer

What's the saying, "What happens at conference, stays at conference?" This entry falls into the category of, 'you had to be there..."
Pictured below is the 'Velvet Hammer'. What is it? You'll need to ask. Just check in with: Rayburn, Oppenheim, Gernert, Savage, McShaffrey, Preston or a few other long-time members.

So THIS is what it takes for me to post my first FPRA blog ... a comment on an adult beverage? But, of course. The Velvet Hammer became the official adult beverage of this year's conference. After a discussion of the beneficial qualities of chocolate martinis as an after-dinner beverage, it was suggested as an adventurous alternative Saturday night by Tom Preston. Luckily, our server at the Ritz fine-dining restaurant knew how to make it and it was awesome. When a few of us wanted to try it in the Ritz bar Sunday night, we were met by a blank stare by lovely bartender, Tamara. Luckily, I recalled the ingredients and Tamara proceeded to experiment with proportions until she got it right. Several of us stumbled to our rooms that night ... but came back for a repeat performance Tuesday night after Golden Image. The result is the photo above. To try it at home, here's my best guess (serves 2): 2 shots vodka, 1 shot Cointreau (or other orange liquor), 1 shot cream de cocoa, 1 cup vanilla ice cream, 1/2 ripe banana, 1/2 cup ice (or more if you want it thicker); blend well and serve with straws and/or spoons. The first one goes down like velvet, the second one hits you like a hammer ... hence the name. Enjoy!

Figures--it takes alcohol to get Rick to blog. Oh well, we each have our own motivational factors.
